Guys…your wife is watching your biceps getting bigger! Is she jealous? Does she want to start “bodybuilding” but is afraid of getting TOO big? She secretly wants that finely chiseled body, too!

Here’s how she can build muscle for a lean, sexy physique without the fear of embarrassing you with bigger arms as you walk down the beach…

There are a lot of myths around women and bodybuilding and they just don’t seem to die. I’d like to share with you an article that sheds light on women and weight training that will pave the path for your wife or girlfriend to adopt the bodybuilding lifestyle with you.

That’s right. We’re going to bust the women and weight training myths right NOW!

Who better to do that than a woman who weight trains and understands your wife’s fears regarding women and weights?

Women and Weight Training Myth #1 – Weight training will make woman huge and manly.

BUSTED – Like most people, when you think of women and weight training you automatically relate that image to the professional female bodybuilder strutting her oiled-up mammoth physique across stage and striking a pose.

What’s NOT mentioned is that 99.9% of the professional female bodybuilders supplement with steroids to develop superhuman muscles.

By the law of nature, women do not produce near the amount of muscle building hormone, testosterone, necessary to build huge swollen, vein-popping muscles. A woman is just not capable of building that type of massive muscle simply by lifting weights.

Bottom line: Weight training will NOT make a woman big and overly muscular.

Women and Weight Training Myth #2 – Women who weight train will lose their breast size.

BUSTED – (pardon the pun) Breast tissue is made up of primarily fat tissue. A loss of body fat will results in smaller breast size.

Weight training develops muscle tissue. Adding strength training will develop the underlying chest muscle on a woman and can add more shape to her upper body, creating those eye-pleasing and sexy curves. In addition, a good chest training program will add stunning high cleavage for that perfect fit in a dress or bikini.

To put it bluntly, the only way for a woman to lose her breast size is if she loses a lot of body fat.

Women and Weight Training Myth #3 – A woman’s muscle will turn into fat if she stops weight training.

BUSTED – There is an astronomical amount of women who won’t weight train for fear their muscle will somehow magically turn into fat if they stop weight training.

Again, muscle and fat are two completely different tissues responsible for their own functions. Muscle is metabolically active (calorie burning) and fat is metabolically inactive (fat storing).

Muscle CANNOT Ever, In Any Case, turn into fat any more than fat can turn into muscle. One can only build or lose muscle OR gain or lose fat. The two separate tissues are not interchangeable.

Women and Weight Training Myth #4 – Muscle weighs more than fat.

BUSTED – It’s no wonder women believe this ridicules statement. Dr. Phil has been known to say it in his highly publicized weight-loss book.

It’s a fact that a pound of muscle and a pound of fat weigh the same, a pound. What most women don’t realize is that a pound of muscle is denser and takes up less space than a pound of fat.

Therefore, having more developed muscle on the female frame with less body fat will make her leaner, tighter, and give off that “toned” look they are after.

Bottom line: Adding natural muscle mass through weight training accentuates a lady’s femininity.

Optimal Heart Rate for Cardio Workouts

cardio
Guest Author: Dane Fletcher

Many bodybuilders do cardio only by the clock. They know they have to hop on the treadmill and knock out 30 or 45 minutes’ worth of plugging away, and they’re done. Some more educated bodybuilders will occasionally attempt to tailor their program, opting for custom incline/intensity levels or perhaps keeping an eye on calories burned. The most intelligent bodybuilders will take heart rate into consideration when completing their cardio, in order to garner the most effective results.

Bodybuilders should be training at their optimal heart rate, which is 50 to 60 percent of their maximum heart rate. There are several steps to calculating this number.

- First, find your maximum heart rate (MHR). This is easy. Subtract your age from the number 220. If you are 30 years old, then your maximum heart rate is 220 minus 30, or 190

- Next, multiply your MHR by .50, and write down this number. This is you’re your optimal minimum.

- Next, multiply your MHR by .60, and write down this number. This number is your optimal maximum.

Now, as you complete your cardio, try to keep your heart rate between your optimal minimum and optimal maximum. It’s that easy!

In bodybuilding, “the more the better!” axiom often rings true. The more weight you lift, the bigger your muscles become. The more food you eat, the bigger you get. The more sleep you get, the better rested you become. However, in the case of cardio training intensity, more is not necessarily better. Training at heart rates of 70% or more will lead to the body consuming muscle to keep up with such an intense workload, instead of utilizing carbohydrates in the body or fat stores.

Training at levels of 50 to 60 percent is perfect for bodybuilders. If you find that 30 minutes at 50-60% is not leading to desired loss of body fat, raise the duration to 45 minutes, or use a split session (one in the morning and one following your weight training). If this additional cardio training does not help, it’s time to re-evaluate your current diet and supplementation program. Cut daily calories by 300-500, add ECA or Tridenosen, and you should be on your way to a leaner physique.

Are You Getting Tired Of Cardio Workouts

cardio
Guest Author: Jess Shaw

Cardio is a very important aspect of any work out. There are numerous benefits to a good cardio routine. In the real world, there are many ways to get a good cardio workout. You can jog, play sports and get chased by the police. In the gym cardio usually revolves around a handful of machines. There are the stair climbers or steppers, the elliptical trainers, tread mills, and bicycles. That’s about it. A good cardio routine can last anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour and is really intensive. The problem is that when you are on a cardio machine, you do the same thing over and over. What I am trying to say is that for most of us cardio gets boring after about five minutes. Don’t lie, you know what I am talking about. The best I have every heard about cardio is ‘I don’t mind it.’ In other words, I get really bored, but I will keep doing it cause it works.

Being bored is horrible. Being Bored is even worse when you know you have another 25 min left and the seconds crawl by like eons. So what gives. Why does cardio have to be so boring? I think it’s a safety issue. In the real world if you go running or play soccer for example, you environment and all its inputs are constantly changing; you run by different scenery, you miss the shot on goal. These changing characteristics are what make the whole process fun. In the gym, however, since space is limited, you have to do your cardio rooted to one spot. Very little happens to your environment to elevate the boredom. Imagine though, if you could have all the excitement of a soccer game while sitting on a recumbent health cycle? At first you may think it’s a great and fun idea. No more boring cardio! Think about it and it becomes a little terrifying. The sheer amount of stimuli hitting you from all angles, your mind would exhaust quickly and you would run the risk of injury (not to mention getting overwhelmed). That is why cardio machines are so boring. They design them to be boring so you don’t hurt yourself. So when you climb up onto your favorite elliptical trainer, remember that its boring for a reason.

What can we do to make cardio more fun? Being new to the world of the gym I think I have some neat ideas to make cardio a more exciting activity. Ok that’s a lie. I don’t have any way to make cardio more exciting, but I do think there are some techniques to make the cardio experience pass more quickly, which, when you think about it, is the next best thing. I really try to distance my mind from my body. I try to unplug. I daydream, listen to loud music and think about my shopping list. For a whole week I designed a basement apartment for my house. It was quite the undertaking. Really focus on not thinking about time. Cover up the timer, know where the near by clocks are and avoid looking at them. Do what ever it takes to detach your self from the realm of the here and now. Remove yourself from our world governed by the second hand. Slip into recesses of your mind and tune out. While the cardio won’t go away at least you can distract yourself. Cardio machines make cardio boring and boring cardio is hard to stick with. Take comfort in knowing that your body loves the attention of a good cardio workout.

Cardio And Muscle Loss: Is Cardio Bad For Muscle Building?

cardio
Guest Author: Rando Meresmaa

A misconception that just does not go away is that you will lose muscle, if you do cardio training. So many people are worried about losing the muscle that they worked so hard to get, that they avoid cardio. Is it really possible to lose large amount of muscle whilst doing cardio?

Most people try to bulk up as much as possible, eating as much food as they can. And often people gain a lot of fat along the way because they avoid cardio workouts. But when people are happy with their muscle weight and try to lose fat then so many people lose muscle as well as fat. And it is not because of intense cardio but mainly because of the strict dieting. And I really do not know many people who consistantly measure their fat percentage. But knowing how much fat you have is essential, otherwise you have no idea if you are losing fat or muscle.

Cardio is not the main cause of muscle loss. You can still maintain your muscles, even if you do 45-minute intensive cardio workouts daily. The main reasons are inadequate caloric intake, inadequate protein or dieting without including a weight training program.

If you want to build muscle then people don´t want to gain much fat. And if people want to lose fat then they don´t want to lose muscle. It is very tricky to do them right. Not eating enough food or skipping meals are much more important factors than doing enough cardio.

Including adequate meal frequency, protein, carbohydrates and total calories to your daily diet is very important. If you are worried about losing muscle then track your lean body mass with skinfold testing and adjust your cardio and nutrition accordingly. You can make the right decisions according to your feedback.

Among those, the most widespread and the one that commonly used for the purposes of body fitness is Hatha yoga, which is a general “catch-all” term for many physical yoga types. From here, yoga has been divided into many different combinations of practice, such as partner yoga and yoga routine in combination with other forms of exercise.

Yoga Routines – Breathing Exercises

The term yoga means “yoke”, which means connect or joining. Yoga routine will make use of specific methods and movements in order to generate a unity of your body. The unity is done initially through deep breathing in order to unite your body with the mind and spirit.

Deep breathing adds focus to your body as well as creates a different pace and flows throughout your body. Thus, yoga focuses on several different areas in your body.

Best Cardio Workout For Fat Loss

cardio
Guest Author: Chung Leong Yu

In order to lose body fat effectively, you have to do cardio and there is no way around it. Many fitness enthusiasts have over looked the benefits cardio workout. The main reason here is because doing cardio exercise is very boring for some people and also, it is very difficult for unfit people to start a cardio workout program because they feel discourage when the cannot complete a run while others can.

Therefore, the best cardio workout for a particular person must be carefully design to meet his or her needs so that they can stick to the cardio workout program and burn fat. There are many strategies of doing cardio like interval training, high intensity interval training, fartlek training and conventional style method.

Here, we are just going to discuss how to design yourself, the best cardio workout for yourself. In the nutshell, the best cardio workout for a person is when the heart rate is elevated for at least thirty to forty five minutes at an intensity of seventy percent to eighty five percent of their maximum heart rate. This heart rate range is called the targeted heart rate.

At this heart rate, the body burns the optimum amount of fat in the body. This means that, if your do your cardio at this heart rate, the percentage of the total calories burned is the highest compared to other heart rates.

To calculate the targeted heart rate for your best cardio workout, follow this formula.

Take two hundred and twenty, minus your age, and then minus your resting heart rate. Then with the figure, multiply it with seventy five percent and eighty five percent. Add your resting heart rate into the two values and that is your targeted heart rate range.

For optimum fat loss, do your cardio workout four to five times a week and each session should last for no lesser than thirty minutes and no more than one hour. Make sure when your doing your cardio, you are in your target heart rate, use a heart rate monitor to monitor your heart rate!

There is much discussion going on which cardio machine is the best. Well, theoretically, if you are in your fat burning zone, any machines will work the same. But there are a few cardio machines that burn calories faster. The excellent calorie burners are the treadmill and the stair master. These cardio machines work the glutes muscle carder than any other machines. Because the glutes is the largest muscle in the body, it will burn a whole lot of calories!

There is another cardio machine that is making a big hit right now. It is called the Wave by Technogym. This particular machine simulates ice-skating and it really can burn calories as fast as the stair master and it works the inner and outer thighs!

You should not be out of breath during the cardio session. You need oxygen to burn of fat. Combine the your cardio workout with weight training and you definitely can see the fat melt off!

Women and Weight Training

weight training
Guest Author: Maggie Pawelek

Our society loves beauty. The most beautiful bodies are symmetrical, lean and firm. So why are most women starving themselves and spending hours on cardio machines trying to be skinny? Lack of knowledge! Most women don’t understand the importance of weight training and how it can help shape their bodies into fat burning machines. The more strong active muscles you have the more fat your body will burn. Remember, muscleburns fat!!

I hear women say that they are afraid to weight train because they don’t want to get “big and bulky”. Women who weight train won’t increase their muscle size much, just their muscle’s density and strength. So forget about that “bulking up” fear. As a woman ages, she begins to loose more muscle because after puberty your essential muscle growth is over and your muscle starts to deteriorate. The act of pregnancy further accelerates your muscle loss because the amount of protein your baby needs to develop requires the baby to steal protein (muscle) from you! Furthermore, re-menopausal, menopausal and post menopausal women have lower hormone levels causing accelerated muscle loss. Weight training with a proper nutrition plan will help re-build your lost muscle.

So why is muscle so important? Muscle is the driving force behind your metabolism. The more muscle you have, the more fat and calories you will burn. A good metabolism doesn’t happen by accident, yes genetics play a part in metabolism, but your life’s choices affect your metabolism as well. Some keys to a good metabolism are: weight training, a nutritious diet, an active lifestyle and a consistency in each.

We are often programmed to think we have to weigh a certain amount to be happy. We say to ourselves “If only I could weigh what I did in high school”. You need to get rid of that scale mentality. Who cares how much you weigh. The most athletic bodies are often considered overweight if you place them on the standard height/weight chart or BMI chart. How is that possible you ask? Because muscle is so dense that it weighs much more than fat. Muscle also holds about 60% more water than fat tissue causing muscular people to weigh much more than their “skinny fat” counterparts. Since muscle weighs more than fat, don’t think that you have to be a certain weight. What you should be most concerned about is your muscle mass % and your body fat%, your body composition. How much muscle and fat is on your body? Or are you firm and tight? To be “lean” you need to have a high percentage of muscle and a lower amount of body fat. That way you can see those sexy muscles your fat is hiding.

So how do you go about getting those muscles you ask?? Weight train! There are 3 larger main muscles that our bodies are comprised of, your legs, back and chest. Metabolism will be affected most if these 3 muscle groups are emphasized since they comprise the majority of the muscle mass on our bodies.

Let’s talk about the area that all women are concerned about the most, legs and your butt. Leg muscles are the biggest strongest muscles of our body. The majority of women don’t realize how strong and powerful their legs can be without getting bulky. I know that most women have a fear of lifting with their legs because they often carry a higher amount of fat in their legs and therefore fear adding bulk to their lower half through strength training. As women we don’t have the levels of testosterone necessary to build big bulky muscles as men do, so don’t think that if you lift with your legs you will make them significantly bigger. Initially yes, a small amount of muscle growth will occur and before you start loose your fat on top of this muscle, you may notice a slight size increase, but this is temporary. Shortly thereafter, you will notice your legs start to gain new shape, firmness and a leaner appearance. All of which is caused by these muscles becoming more active and therefore burning more fat.

Oh my favorite, the back! Most women are absolutely unaware of the huge potential fat burning muscles they have on their back. Our backs are full of muscles. There are tons of them holding our spine, ribs and shoulders in place. These muscles are very important to our health. How often do we hear about back and neck pain? I truly believe that weak back muscles cause much of the pain. Lifting with your back requires proper form and extreme focus on the muscles you are working.

Finally, our chest muscles. I am talking about your pectorals, the muscles all women need to embrace. Pregnancy and breast-feeding do horrible things to a woman’s breasts. The looks of a woman’s breast goes beyond the mammary tissue, it lies underneath in the pectoral muscles. Pregnancy can rob our bodies of muscle which means the muscle that once lifted our breast now is gone and it too needs to be rebuilt. If you want to give yourself a natural breast lift and boost your metabolism, build up your chest.

You must find a way to challenge your muscles. Lifting the same weight every time you perform an exercise will maintain what muscle you have, but not change them. I don’t know many people that like spending an hours at the gym every week to stay exactly the same. We all crave to improve ourselves, so we must challenge our muscles by lifting weights that are challenging. There is nothing complicated about this, make sure you find yourself slightly challenged by your lifting program.

Lastly change it up! If your muscles get used to the same thing over and over again they will get bored just like you do. Boredom causes your muscle to not respond just as it causes you to not want to do your boring workout. Don’t be afraid to change, try some new exercises, change the number of sets and reps of your exercises, increase or decrease your rest time between sets and workouts and change the order of your exercises. Remember muscle burns fat.

Resveratrol Use and How it Can Benefit You

resveratrol
Guest Author: Elizabeth Ruby

Have you ever thought about the benefits of resveratrol use? Resveratrol is an antioxidant that is very powerful at helping to combat diseases. Diseases like cancer, heart problems, and strokes plus other health concerns like fatigue and obesity.

Taking a supplement with resveratrol in it makes sense with today’s health woes lurking around every corner. I belong to a medium sized church with a prayer chain, and it never fails, there is a prayer request in my email box almost daily for someone’s health concern, mainly cancer or stints being put in the heart.

Growing up I belonged to about the same size church in a different city, yet I don’t remember the amount of prayer request for health ills like there is now. It seems like there are more and more diseases attacking more and more people. And I don’t think my part of the country is any different than anywhere else.

Please understand I am not a doctor or a health care professional, so don’t take this as professional medical advice, but as far as I am concerned resveratrol use and other beneficial supplements is necessary to stay healthy and enjoy a long life span.

You may have read red wine is good for your heart. What you may not know is it is the resveratrol in the skin of the red grapes that is one component of the red wine that makes it healthy for you to consume. I am not advocating you get all your resveratrol drinking red wine. I am just pointing out where researchers have found the health benefits come from.

A sure way to get the amount of resveratrol you need every day is by taking a supplement that includes it in the ingredients. The one I take has other great nutrients in it to help combat disease and keep you healthy, like CoQ10, ginkgo biloba, essentials minerals and vitamins, plus other herbal extracts. An added benefit is you get all of them combined for just one low price, as opposed to buying them all separately and paying much more.

Now that you know some information about resveratrol use, check out my web site. You’ll find lots of good health information there concerning nutritional supplements. You’ll also discover which one I use and why I consider it the best and where to get at one low price.
